We’ve all heard this line, “If you build it, they will come.” This not-quite accurate Field of Dreams quote still resonates. For me, it became kind of a mantra, build it and they will come. Build what exactly, you’re wondering? We at the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation reached out to our Mississippi friends. Reflecting upon the legacy of the MS Delta blues and the integrally related rock ‘n roll heritage of the Jersey Shore, we created The Mississippi Delta Meets the Jersey Shore!
Matawan Blues & Cruise: A Night of Vintage Cars and Classic Blues
This is becoming a thing. On Wednesday, May 24th, the town of Matawan –in conjunction with the JSJBF– held their second annual “Blues & Cruise” night. And just like last year, the event was epic.

As part of our JSJBF “outreach programming,” we’re extending our reach to the Mississippi Delta! We’ve created a MS Delta/Jersey Shore partnership! We’ve all heard the famous Muddy Waters quote: “The blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll.” What better way to celebrate the offspring, the fantastic Jersey Shore rock ‘n’ roll sound, than to honor its roots!
From Metal to Mingus!
oseph M. Peterson is a well-known jazz bassist with many musical accomplishments to his name. You wouldn’t know it, but he started out playing heavy metal before he immersed himself in the music which is now his passion. Lucky for our local jazz lovers, Joe will be bringing his eclecticism to the Chubby Pickle with the “Peterson/Weeks Quintet” on Saturday evening, May 20.
Harpin’ Help Celebrates 25 Years!
ack in 1999 Sandy Mack wanted to help the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation, while also giving back to the community, and Harpin’ Help was born. Being a fixture in the local music scene and having played with so many of his friends, putting a day of music together was a natural for him. As the recipient, the JSJBF co-produced the event and supplied the manpower to put it on.
Dean Shot: From Tampa to the Pickle
Dean Shot and bassist Steve Kirsty from the Thunderbirds were joined by ace drummer Alex Raderman to headline Blue Collar Blues at the Chubby Pickle.

The Mark LaRochelle Youth Open Mic presented by The Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation was presented on a beautiful night on February 10th 2023 coordinated by board member Joseph Vincent Riggio. As always it was an incredible night of fun, friendship, and music.
JSJBF Annual Holiday Party
Sunday December 11th was a cold and rainy night, but that did not deter a near-capacity crowd from dressing up in their best outfits of the season and attending our annual JSJBF holiday party featuring youth sensation, Carlotta Schmidt and Peter Veteska & Blues Train with special guests Mikey Junior and Jen Barnes.
