Matawan Blues & Cruise Night

On a crisp clear evening, Main Street in Matawan’s downtown was alive with the aroma of vintage cars, the sound of live blues music, and restaurants teeming with patrons. The Matawan Economic Development Council produced the Main Street Blues & Cruise Night, and the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation supplied the music. At the beginning of the event, the Heroes Garden between Maloney’s and Scalia Funeral Home was dedicated to the first responders and veterans with proceeds from the event going to the Matawan American Legion for veteran services.

Member bands, the Incinerators and Seba had the street hopping with dancers and onlookers throughout the evening. Many strolled up and down the venue inspecting approximately 150 classic cars, including a vintage Cadillac owned by Matawan resident and outstanding blues musician, Saron Crenshaw. Board member John Dammacco brought his 1969 Corvette and Sonny Kenn’s guitarist George Evans also had his muscle car on display. There were even trucks and a trike motorcycle pulling a see-through hearse parked in front of Scalia’s Funeral Home!

A DJ was there to make sure there was no down time, and trophies were awarded at the end of the show. For those who like to browse other than cars, there were about 30 crafters set up on site with many interesting wares, including JSJBF board member Tina LoBosco’s Sinister Footwear. With a large crowd in attendance, the town had to be pleased with the event, and we are hoping it becomes an annual event in town.
