On a beautiful late May evening, the 5th annual Matawan Blues & Cruise descended on Main St., and what a night it was. Once again, the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation (JSJBF) partnered with Matawan Borough to provide live music for this outstanding community event.
A Night of Outstanding Blues Music
We were entertained by member band Peter V & Blues Train with original member Alex D’Agnese on drums, Coo Moe Jhee on bass, and up from Philly Mike Scott on sax and long-time friend and supporter of the JSJBF, Mikey Junior on harp. In addition, board member Gary Neuwirth got up on a few numbers on harp as well. The biggest crowd yet was treated to some superior blues over the course of the evening, including “Baby Please Come Home,” “Have You Ever Loved A Woman,” “Hey Joe,” and “One Way Out.” This band certainly brought the essence of these songs to life, with some of the best soloing to be heard.

Food, Vendors, and Classic Cars
Plenty of great food was available either on the street or in one of the many fine restaurants that were open. Several crafters were displaying their wares, including member Tina LoBosco’s Sinister Socks, and I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to her husband Jay, who managed the stage and sound.
I have included some pictures of the many interesting cars on display, covering the last century of automotive history (my Corvette Grand Sport not withstanding).

As the summer season kicks into high gear, the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation looks forward to bringing even more live music, community events, and unforgettable nights to the Shore — be sure to check our calendar for upcoming performances and events all summer long!
