2nd Annual Mississippi Delta Meets the Jersey Shore Concert
We’ve had a busy spring & summer with our Delta friends, both visiting them in Mississippi and then welcoming them to NJ. We were excited to host some of Clarkdsale’s finest, LaLa & Element 88 at the Lauren K. Woods Theatre in June; the band played to an enthusiastic crowd, and received rave reviews! Thanks to our friends at the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music for co-producing this event, and for the nice writeup!
On Friday, June 7, The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music and the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation hosted the second annual Mississippi Delta meets the Jersey Shore concert in the Lauren K. Woods Theatre featuring LaLa and Element 88. Blues enthusiasts enjoyed the powerful music of these Clarksdale, Mississippi, natives and opening artist, Kenny “Stringbean” Sorenson.
But this evening was not just about music, it was also about telling the story of the rich history of Delta Blues and the role it plays in the landscape of American Music.
Bob Santelli spoke to the audience about the deep history and roots of this art form and its relevance to the Center for American Music while JSJBF’s Christine Zemla recounted her many visits to the Clarksdale area and her deep appreciation for the overall culture and vibrant live music scene that she encountered.
