A Night of Music and Holiday Cheer

JSJBF Holiday Party 2024

The annual JSJBF Holiday Party at McCloone’s Supper Club was a festive and memorable occasion, bringing together members, friends, and supporters for a night of great music and celebration. This year, the party was headlined by the incredible Eliza Neals and her talented band, who were joined on stage by board member Gary Neuwirth for a special performance.

After opening remarks by President Tom Baldino, Eliza and her band kicked off the evening with a dynamic set that showcased her diverse career. The performance featured a mix of original songs and powerful covers, including a standout rendition of “I’d Rather Go Blind.” Eliza, dressed in festive red with a white stole, added a touch of holiday magic to the set, weaving Christmas classics throughout the performance.

Recognizing Contributions and Celebrating the Year

During the break, Tom Baldino took a moment to thank outgoing board members John Dammacco and Wayne Kessler for their invaluable contributions to the organization. He then introduced the current board, welcoming new members Jeff Bavaro and Jay Sweet.

A special shout-out was given to Sandy Mack, he was an IBC representative this year and has organized Harpin’ Help for 25 years. This annual event benefits the JSJBF and local food banks, making a significant impact in the community.

Chris Zemla, chairperson of the Community Outreach Committee, spoke about the exciting partnership with the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University, as well as the upcoming trip to Clarksdale, Mississippi, the birthplace of the blues. The JSJBF will travel there again in the spring of 2025.

In addition, Volunteer of the Year awards were presented to Robyn Flipse and Bob Stanley, in recognition of their dedication and hard work throughout the year.

Raffle Winner and More Music to End the Night

The highly anticipated raffle for the guitar was held, with the lucky winner being David Immerman. Unfortunately, David was not present to accept the prize, so it will be presented to him at a later date.

Eliza and her band closed out the night with another stellar set, blending blues and Christmas favorites, including a raucous version of “Wang Dang Doodle,” with Gary Neuwirth contributing on harmonica. The evening ended on a high note with a moving rendition of Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.”
