Featuring Lasher and the Flashers
Saturday, September 19, 2020
Hosted by the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation
Saturday afternoon September 19th was a beautiful sunny time to hold the second installment of the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation’s “Reckless Steamy Days”. This socially distanced event once again held in the beautifully landscaped backyard of our gracious hosts, Vice President Dennis Eschbach and our Office Manager, Doris Lazur provided a terrific afternoon of live music to an appreciative crowd of guests. The day kicked off with Alexander Rausch, one of our very talented youth open mic participants. His extraordinary guitar skills were evident to all as he soloed over backing tracks of some Jazz standards. At 14 years old, he has a bright future ahead of him. We anticipate presenting him with a scholarship when he graduates high school.
Our featured act, Sharon Lasher & The Flashers, mixed “Dirty Blues” with well known tunes from Linda Ronstadt, Bonny Raitt and others, making for a fine afternoon of songs that the audience knew and loved. Sharon was in fine form, from a whisper to a shout, every word was clear as a bell. With P.K. Lavengood and Gary Oleyar on acoustic guitars and Paul Avrutin on bass, they provided strong but lighthearted backup with stellar playing as well as vocals. Gary also played violin on a few numbers which took them to another level.
The event again featured a basket raffle (thank you Board member Jim Murphy and member Juel Kern) and prepackaged snacks. The event raised funds for our youth scholarship program and foundation operations during this time of limited activity.
We are looking forward to what will probably be our final event of the year, the annual visit from Board member Joe Hughes and Goldenseal, featuring the Golden Horns. It promises to be a fun afternoon, so don’t miss out. Make your reservation today by calling Doris at 732-933-1984.
