Mark LaRochell Youth Open Mic – MYLOM
Update from Joseph Vincent Riggio
Saturday, August 15th, 2020 was our first live Mark LaRochelle Youth Open Mic since February of this year before the COVID-19 pandemic forced our monthly event to lose its usual venue at the Women’s Club of Red Bank in the Anthony Reckless Estate. It was held at The Chubby Pickle, 23 Bay Avenue Highlands N.J. The Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation is eternally grateful for their graciousness in hosting us. The staff was attentive, the food and beverages were enjoyed by all and the crowd was engaged the entire night opening our regular performers up to some new faces as well as being happily greeted by our loyal attendees, who were delighted to see this talented group playing live and enjoying each other’s company again. Prior to this evening, we have been continuing via Livestream on Instagram for the last few months. Board member Joseph Vincent Riggio continues to coordinate and host the event.
Prior to the pandemic The Mark LaRochelle Youth Open Mic was Presented by the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation one Friday night a month. Conceived and initiated by our dear friend and late Board of Trustees member Mark LaRochelle to provide the musical youth community a forum to perform in a fun, supportive, friendly and inviting environment.
A $5 Donation to perform or attend is greatly appreciated and proceeds go to our yearly scholarship fund. Under 21 to perform, all ages welcome to enjoy. A full backline provided
Music is not limited to Jazz and Blues. We look forward to continuing this night in its live form as long as we are able. In these challenging times, the music helps us join together in a community and provides some much-needed distraction and quality entertainment for all.
