Sandy Mack performing at "Harping Help" at Bar Anticipation. Sandy produces this event each year.
Sandy Mack has been active in the NJ music scene for many years. Early on he had the good fortune of jamming with many of the local music greats. The combination of these early influences plus his love of jump & Chicago blues, helped him develop his unique style of harp playing, singing and song writing. In recent years in addition to playing with his own band & as a member of Juke Joint Jonny & the Usual Suspects, he has continued to record & has also played on recordings by Albert Castiglia, Nicole Hart, etc.
Sandy also hosts a monthly harmonica workshop & organizes the annual JSJBF sponsored charitable music event- Harpin' Help.
CD revues for "Still Going Strong" Here are some unsolicited quotes about the "Still Going Strong" CD:
“Absolutely love this…Great CD…I find Sandy Mack’s CD is one of them that I keep going back to and listening to over and over again… I just love this record and I think you’re going to have a really great time listening to it also”
~ Mark Wade-A1 Blues
“This guy is as good as those famous cats such as Mark Hummel or RJ Mischo! His tone, phrasing, imagination and ability to make just a couple of notes tell the whole story – I love that. But “Still Going Strong” is much more than just a harmonica record – all guys playing there are fantastic wit(sic) Kid Ramos and the Hammong (sic) organ guy impressing me the most. Two thumbs up!”
~ Przemek Draheim - Radio Sfera-Poland
“I'm sold, this guy get my top 5 albums of the year without exception, a big call I know, but playing blues every spare minute of the day, you really get a feel for what you like, and you know what? I Like It's not very often that you find an album that grabs you from end to end, but this one did.”
~ Terry Iredale HOTFM 106.7FM - Australia
“Sandy Mack's voice isn't rough and jagged. On the contrary, it's smooth and complimented nicely by his harp playing, which sounds great.… Still Going Strong is just that, a strong offering from Sandy Mack”
~ Johnny Full-Time, Full-Time Blues Radio
“I can only say “wow” I listen to a lot of blues CDs and many are mediocre. Your CD is an exception – it smokes from start to finish. So far this year it is clearly one of the ten (probably five) best.”
~ Greg Demko KRZA 88.7FM - Colorado
“Mark Hummel, Rick Estrin, Dennis Gruenling, Steve Guyger, Bill Lupkin. Now add Sandy Mack to that list amongst some of the best contemporary harp players… Mack dips and jives between swing, blues, loungy jazz, shuffles, and boogie-woogie rock to help keep you in the mood for toe-tapping enjoyment. Mack's harp produces some delicious tones that puts him in the aforementioned good company because he doesn't overplay and he phrases himself to fit the song and not blow it over.”
~ Ben Cox-Juke Joint Soul
“For a bracing shot of traditional blues listen to Sandy Mack’s latest album. Mack is a tough harmonica player, credible frontman, and a fine writer. Tasty shuffles and jump blues lend Still Going Strong(Blues Leaf Records) a West Coast flair that’s accentuated by the guitarists, notably the reliably excellent Kid Ramos on six tracks…Andy Riedel, Ron Rauso & Rich McPherson are likewise terrific. “That’s Not Right”, Turn My Luck Around” and the Texas style “Road Warrior” simply smoke…”
