JSJBF "Best Self-Produced CD" challenge 2017-8

CD submission deadline is Friday September 19, 2017

The Blues Foundation has announced that it will again be recognizing excellence achieved by artists in the recording studio by bestowing the 2018 "Best Self -Produced CD" Award at the finals competition in Memphis on Saturday January 20, 2018.

As many of you know, The Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation's submission in 2006 of "Back in Bluesville" by Roxy Perry and Dave Fields won the competition.And Mikey Junior's "It Ain't Hard to Tell" made the final 5 in 2012.

The CD submitted must have been released between November 1,2016 and Oct 31,2017. Acts can be bands,solo acts,duo acts, trios,full choirs or any other combination. Compilation CD's are not eligible.The Blues Foundation will conduct two rounds of judging by radio/print personalities leading to the final round.The winner need not be present at the finals competition.

Submissions will be evaluated by the JSJBF IBC CD Committee on the basis of the same criteria used by the Blues Foundation:

  1. Blues Content;
  2. Musical Performance;
  3. Audio Quality of Presentation(Production Values/Levels);
  4. Cover Art and Design (Packaging/Ready for Rack Sales); and
  5. Credits and Liner Information (Informative/Professional).

In recent years the Blues Foundation has advised all the affiliates to remind the competitors about criteria No. 5. since many of the submissions lacked that item and it affected the judges decisions..

If you are interested in submitting an entry in this portion of our local IBC competition, please send your letter of interest( and your 2017-2018 band/solo dues for Sept 1-2017-August 31-2018  together with 2 copies of your CD for consideration to Gene Iadanza, JSJBF IBC CD Committee, 952 Sycamore Ave., Tinton Falls NJ 07724 on/or before Friday September 15, 2017 ( We have to use an earlier deadline then the October 31,2017 Blues Foundation cutoff to give the committee time to listen and evaluate the submissions,choose our representative and get the CD to Memphis by November 1).

Any questions concerning your dues status may be made to our Office Manager, Doris Lazur, by contacting her at 732-933-1984.

The winner will be chosen and all participants advised of the results. Four additional copies of the winning CD will then be needed to  submit to the Blues Foundation with our cover letter.
